Privacy Policy

Community Living Walkerton and District is committed to protecting the personal information provided by its members, employees, and by those receiving and requesting service, in compliance with Federal and Provincial legislation, and ensures the privacy of confidential business information.

Personal information is information about an identifiable individual, but does not include the name, title, or business address or telephone number of an employee of an organization.  CLWD practices confidentiality in the handling of all personal information it has collected. 

  • Only authorized personnel have access to this information, based on their need to deal with the information for the reason(s) for which it was obtained. 
  • The collection of personal information by CLWD is limited to that which is necessary for the purposes identified at or before the time collected, which a reasonable person would consider appropriate in the circumstances. 
  • The knowledge and consent of the individual (or their substitute decision maker) is required by CLWD for the collection, use and disclosure of personal information, except where inappropriate. 
  • Personal information is not used or disclosed or used for purposes other than those for which it was collected, except with the consent of the individual or as required by law.  Personal information is retained only as long as necessary to fulfill those purposes or as required by the laws that govern the activities of the association (CLWD).   

Within a reasonable time of being notified, CLWD will update records to reflect any changes in personal information provided by members, employees, or those receiving service. Upon request, an individual shall be informed of the existence, use and disclosure of his or her personal information and shall be given access to that information. An individual shall be able to challenge the accuracy and completeness of the information and have it amended as appropriate.

Employees are required to sign a confidentiality agreement which details the expectation of CLWD that staff will respect and safeguard confidential, privileged personal information of which they become aware in the course of their duties.  Through this agreement, employees are aware that a breech of confidentiality could result in termination of their employment.

CLWD shall make available to individuals specific information about its policies and practices relating to the management of personal information.

An individual shall be able to address a challenge concerning compliance with the above principles to the manager who is accountable for the collection and use of the individual’s personal information.
