Community Participation Supports

Employment, Vocational Alternatives and Community Access for Adults

A variety of activities are enjoyed by people, including full-time or part-time employment. With consultation regarding their interests, individuals have found work in a wide variety of settings. Many people are supported to enjoy a seemingly endless variety of leisure and volunteer activities, and these contributions to our community are valued by the churches, businesses and other organizations or individuals involved. As well the routines associated with any household must be accomplished, such as getting the mail, shopping for groceries, and a multitude of other errands.

To the extent that is desired, each person receives support as they participate in the various aspects of community life.

To request Community Participation Supports, applicants are directed to Developmental Services Ontario http://www.dsontario.ca/agencies/dso-southwest or contact our office for more information.

Community Living Supports

Individual Living and Group Living

At their request, support services are currently provided to people who live independently and other adults who live in small households of one, two, three or four people. Some people have the daily direct assistance of developmental support workers with a team of part-time support workers who help at scheduled times, day and night. Others have assistance, as needed, for specific requirements.

Everyone needs others in their life. Some people find themselves to be quite independent and able to see to their own needs for daily living, with the help of a support worker for medical appointments, banking, grocery shopping and arranging vacations, for example. Others require full-support for personal care. Those who receive support for daily living reside in Walkerton and surrounding communities. Friendships are fostered, and many wonderful relationships have developed within communities as people are supported to go shopping, do their household business, visit restaurants and the library, and to generally participate as full and welcomed citizens.

  • They have social or emotional needs
  • Their behaviours are challenging to parents, themselves and others

Early Intervention service is based on play based strategies that are provided by Infant and Child Development (ICD) workers in your home.
